By DAN GORMAN, Associated Press – NEW YORK (AP) Gucci’s perfume line is getting pricier.
But it’s not by a huge amount.
The luxury retailer says it’s adding about 25 percent to its fragrances for the first time in five years.
The increase is partly a response to the surging popularity of Gucci cosmetics.
The company, which makes fragrance products for men and women, says it added about 20,000 fragrance items to its stores last year.
The majority of the new items are perfumes made by a small number of designers.
It says its fragranced fragrants will continue to be priced the same or higher than they were in 2017.
The addition comes as perfume makers face increased competition from designer fragrancing.
Last year, more than 50 of the top 100 perfumes sold in the U.S. were made by fragrancers, according to research firm Brand Intelligence.
Last week, a federal judge ordered the makers of the Chanel fragrance, an ingredient in Chanel’s $10,000-per-piece perfume line, to pay more than $20 million in fines and back pay to consumers who were harmed by the use of the ingredient in the perfume.
A spokeswoman for Chanel did not immediately return a message seeking comment on the ruling.
